Good Halloween sayings and quotes are always spooky and are a fun way of getting into the spirit of the Sabbat holiday. I loved some of the particularly poetic ones, but found some good Halloween sayings from literature, movies and TV too.
At first cock-crow, the ghosts must go
Back to their quiet graves below
~ Theodosia Garrison
When witches go riding,
And black cats are seen,
The moon laughs and whispers,
'Tis near Halloween!
Shadows of a thousand years rise again
Voices whisper in the trees, "Tonight is Halloween!"
~ Dexter Kozen
When black cats prowl and pumpkins
May luck be yours on Halloween
And as to being in a fright,
Allow me to remark
That ghosts have just as good a right
In every way, to fear the light,
As men to fear the dark.
~ Lewis Carroll
Now is the time of night,
That the graves, all gaping wide,
Every one lets forth his sprite
In the church-way paths to glide
~ Shakespeare, Midsummer Night's Dream
"If a man harbors any sort of
it makes him a landlord to a ghost."
~ Lloyd Douglas
"The more enlightened our houses
are, the more their walls ooze ghosts"
~ Italo Calvino
"There are nights when the wolves
are silent, and only the moon howls."
~ George Carlin
"I'm a homicidal maniac. They look
just like everyone else."
~ Wednesday Addams
And of course, the most popular Halloween saying is the classic "Trick or Treat!"
